Powered by the cutting-edging miniature electrostatic tweeter technology, It employs a six micro gram, gold plated membrane held against a plate charged up to 400 volts. The electrical signal voltage is amplified up to 100 times via a built-in miniature transformer. The electrostatic attraction and repulsion effects induced by music signal triggers the membrane to produce acoustic pressure. Simply plug into your player and high fidelity music is ready to go.
‘‘A design that truly brings out the ES driver’s qualities’’
The first thing that comes to our mind when the latest Sonion ES-driver consisting of fancy micro step-up transformers are sent to us in early 2018?
It is not about achieving higher specs, but rather what we can do to utilize the design for a higher level of perceived enjoyment and a more immersive experience in listening!
POLA - the end result after a year worth of product research, houses a large and fast 13MM Graphene (carbon allotrope) dynamic driver driving a lot of air, implemented to pair with the latest ES driver quite alike traditional speakers with a super tweeter.
Now you can hear very deep and layered bass, charming and full-bodied vocal and even fine details in the ambiance thanks to the new tweeter innovation and synergy of the design.
The original POLA is displayed at Canjams in Early 2018, earliest prototype is a 3D metal printed universal housing featuring a smaller diameter dynamic driver with the electrostatic drivers. The sound is very well received however together with AAW we hope to push the design to its limits. During 2018 we have tried to put prototypes with BA, multi hybrid designs at show and private gatherings for feedbacks, and in the end we are answering with the current design that houses not only specifications that goes up the roof, but concrete driver implementations allowing the design to scale up with sources and reflects the mastering’s quality. At just 16ohms POLA will work with most phones and laptops, and quality DAPs or Amplifiers supplying better power, also well mastered tracks will definitely boost performance to a more enjoyable tier!
*Specification and internal parts for Custom Version is slightly different to accommodate changes when switching from universal to custom housings
Collections: Universal In-Ear Monitor
Type: Universal IEM
In my opinion, POLA has the following characteristics:
1. Well-controlled and detailed treble which is not irritating.
2. Smooth and sentimental vocal, when other IEMs with BA will have occasional presence of sibilance but that is not the case for POLA.
3. Deep and booming bass, that is the most brilliant part of POLA and I can really hear very deep and layered bass as described.
Moreover, a powerful DAP or portable amplifier is needed to drive this giant and a certain run-in period will definitely boost its performance to another level.
With the airy sound stage, sweetly treble, smooth mid, tight and controlled bass, it’s a new and great experience to listen to Female Jazz vocal with Pola! It’s more enjoyable to listen to Pola than W900 although the fit with W900 is better for me. Great work to AAW and Shozy!
I've only had these a few days so these are very initial impressions.
I use these with a Hiby R6 pro out of the 4.4 balanced port with the (very nice) Hakone cable.
They have a rather odd, boxy shape that will definitely stick out from your ears.
Everyone's ears are shaped differently obviously and I could not get any workable fit/seal with any of the silicone tips. For me, the large foam tips work fine though and give me a comfortable, secure fit. I definitely don't think anyone would want to use these for working out/jogging etc..
I'm not really an audiophile in the sense of accurately describing slight differences in timbre and fine details. I do have however several earphones in this relative price range and I know what sounds "good" overall, at least to me.These are very capable overall and sound better than my CA Jupiters, Vegas and my JHA custom 13somethings.
These have OUTSTANDING bass. If bass is your thing, look no further, you're done.
I'm sure thats from the insane 13m Dynamic Driver. At first I thought they were rather "muddy" due to the bass but the rest of the sound range seems to be opening up nicely with
more use.
I rate them a strong 4 stars but not 5 simply because I also own RHA CL2's and they can't
match those but I'm not sure anything (at any price) can. The RHA's are just cleaner, tighter and faster. Perhaps with more use the Pola's will scale up. I'm definitely not disappointed with these however.
I also want to say the service from Null Audio was top notch and I can't recommend them highly enough. Su answered my MANY questions promptly and was super helpful at every step. Many thanks!
